CHILD SAFETY & WELLBEING
COMMITMENT STATEMENT

We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and positive environment for all children and young people involved in rugby across our jurisdiction. We recognise that children and young people have the right to feel safe, respected and valued, and that safeguarding their physical, emotional, cultural and psychological wellbeing is a shared responsibility across our organisation and the rugby community.

We have zero tolerance for child abuse, neglect, bullying, harassment or exploitation in any form. We are committed to always acting in the best interests of children and young people and to meeting our obligations under the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and relevant Queensland legislation.

We commit to:

  • Embedding child safety and wellbeing in our leadership, governance and culture, ensuring it is reflected in decision‑making, policies and everyday practice Listening to children and young people, respecting their views and supporting their participation in decisions that affect them
  • Partnering with families, affiliates and communities to promote child safety and wellbeing across all levels of rugby
  • Upholding equity and respecting diversity, including the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with disability, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and children of all gender identities and sexual orientations
  • Ensuring the suitability of staff, volunteers and officials through screening, training and clear standards of behaviour
  • Providing clear, child‑focused processes for raising concerns, responding to complaints and reporting suspected harm
  • Equipping staff, volunteers and affiliates with knowledge and skills through education, guidance and ongoing support
  • Maintaining safe physical and online environments that minimise risks to children and young people
  • Regularly reviewing and improving our child safeguarding practices to strengthen safety outcomes over time

Everyone involved in our organisation β€” including board members, employees, contractors, volunteers, coaches, officials, clubs and affiliates
β€” has a responsibility to:

  • Understand and comply with RA’s child safeguarding policies and codes of conduct
  • Act in a manner that protects children and young people from harm
  • Raise concerns or report suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with RA procedures and legal requirements

Our board/management committee endorse this commitment and are responsible for ensuring child safety and wellbeing remain a priority now and into the future, supported by clear policies, education, monitoring and continuous improvement.
